stardate: gilead

després de llegir lila, de la mateixa autora, em van venir moltes ganes de llegir-lo.

lila em va agradar molt, tot i que ara me n'adono que no en vaig escriure cap apunt. és la història d'una nena-noia-dona que en un moment es troba un pastor (capellà) d'un poble d'iowa, s'hi casa i te un fill.

lila és el tercer llibre d'una trilogia d'aquesta autora sobre històries del mig oest americà.

gilead és el primer llibre d'aquesta trilogia. és una carta que el marit de la lila escriu pel seu fill. li explica la seva vida per carta, perquè la llegeixi quan el nen sigui gran, ja que el pastor és bastant vell quan el nen neix. o sigui que en un sentit és la mateixa història explica des d'un altre punt de vista. no és ben bé així, però una mica sí.

encara que gilead va guanyar el premi pulitzer i lila em sembla que no, jo em quedo amb lila. i encara que gilead va ser escrit abans, jo llegiria lila abans, perquè així la història de gilead es fa molt més interessant.

That is how life goes --- we send out children into the wilderness. Some of them on the day the are born, it seems, for all the help we can give them. Some of them seem to be a kind of wilderness unto themselves.

the worst eventualities, can have great value as experience. An often enough, when we think we are protecting ourselves, we are struggling against our rescuer.

It is worth living long enough to outlast whatever sense of grievance you may acquire. Another reason why you must be careful of your health.

There are two occasions when the sacred beauty of Creation becomes dazzling apparent, and they occur together. One is when we feel our mortal insufficiency to the world, and the other is when we feel the world's mortal insufficiency to us.

... that precious things have been put into our hands and to do nothing to honor them is to do great harm. And therefore, this courage allows us, as the old men said, to make ourselves useful. It allows us to be generous, which is another way of saying exactly the same thing.
